Who We Are

Our Name Explained

Lux Viridi Athletic Club means more than just the words in the name. In Latin, “lux viridi” translates to “green light.” This is a reference to a traffic light which rotates through three settings; red for “stop”, yellow for “be cautious,” and green for “go.” In track and field (and in life) success comes when a person dares to push the limits of their comfort zone and goes beyond. The phrase associated with this mindset is what we like to call “playing green” (footnote 1). We hope the name of the club is a constant reminder for those involved to play with no regrets, go all in, and don’t hesitate to reach your full potential.

OUR HISTORY

Lux Viridi Athletic Club has had roots in the New England area for nearly two decades. Before it became LVAC, the name of the club was New England Pole Vault club. Coach Brenner Abbott formed NEPVC in 2004 with the goal of creating opportunities throughout the year for New England pole vaulters and providing proper instruction from the area’s top coaches. Through the years, NEPVC instructed some of the area’s top vaulters, including State Champions,

New England Champions, and even a High School National Champion (see Hall of Fame page for more info). After finding success in the vault, NEPVC branched out, instructing athletes in the high jump, decathlon, and heptathlon. The club found similar success in each of the events it took on; leading athletes to success on the local, regional, and national stage. Though under a new name, Lux Viridi A.C. will continue the legacy of New England Pole Vault Club. LVAC is a

specialty track club focusing on the development of the next generation of elite pole vaulters and track and field athletes. We are looking to elevate track and field in the US with aspirations to become one of the premier track clubs in the nation. Coach Brenner Abbott and Coach Erick Duffy hope to inspire greatness not just in their technical understanding of the track and field events, but also in their experience knowing what it takes to realize one’s full potential.

Coach Brenner Abbott founded the club in 2004 and quickly rewrote the history of New England pole vault.

Coach Brenner Abbott founded the club in 2004 and quickly rewrote the history of New England pole vault. Over the years, he has coached athletes to state and New England titles, state and regional records, and even national championships. His success extends beyond the vault runway—Abbott has also guided high jumpers to state championships, New England crowns, and All-American honors.

His coaching career spans every level of the sport, with stops at Milford High School, Northeastern University, and, for the past 15 years, Harvard University. As an athlete, Abbott was captain of the University of Maine Track & Field team, where he set the school pole vault record and excelled in the javelin.

Now, he remains focused on building the next generation of athletes and establishing New England as a true powerhouse—not only in pole vault and high jump, but across the full spectrum of track and field.

Coach Erick Duffy has already made significant strides (pun intended) in advancing track and field in the US. He began his coaching career with Harvard Track and Field, where he contributed to three Ivy League team championships (Women’s Indoor, Women’s Outdoor, and Men’s Outdoor). From there, he joined Boston College as the Field Events coach, spending two years developing the program’s jumpers, throwers, and multi-event athletes.

For the 2025–26 season, Coach Duffy takes on a new chapter with Duke Track and Field, leading the pole vault squad and continuing the Blue Devils’ tradition of excellence.

Beyond the collegiate scene, Duffy has been instrumental in shaping Lux Viridi Athletic Club. With Coach Abbott, he helped rebrand and grow the club while also finding a home to develop as both an athlete and coach. His passion and success now fuel his mission to inspire the next generation of athletes. That drive has brought him to Durham, NC, where he is thrilled to expand Lux Viridi AC to its second location.
